Communication Arts Course Redesigned as Part of REACH

Communication Arts 260: “Communication and Human Behavior” is one of 13 courses currently participating in the REACH (Redesigning for Active Learning in High-Enrollment Courses) Initiative, which aims to improve student learning by increasing students’ engagement in large introductory courses.

As part of the redesign process, Professor Sara McKinnon and the REACH project team worked to replace one in-person class day per week with interactive online lessons in Canvas; add writing workshops and peer reviews; and re-purpose the remaining in-person class sessions for group case-study discussions. Writing assignments were also updated to improve student engagement and help students develop transferable skills.
