Globalizing Higher Education and Research for the ‘Knowledge Economy’

This course examines an array of issues related to the globalization of higher education and research. The main objective is to enable students to better understand how and why universities are engaged in globalization, as well as identify the key implications of this development process.

Kris Olds is professor and chair of the Department of Geography, as well as a faculty affiliate in Educational Policy Studies, Urban and Regional Planning, and Scandinavian Studies. His focus on the globalization of higher education and research continues longstanding interests in the globalization of services industries (including higher education) and their relationship to urban and regional change. Olds co-teaches this course with Susan Robertson of the University of Bristol (UK). Their collaboration began in the mid-2000s via a Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) exchange.
