InnovationComputer-simulation for health profession students

Impact The virtual learning experience is more comprehensive, and evaluation is more uniform.

Most health professional students are required to do home visits but may be limited in their experiences. We designed a novel computer simulated home visit that allows the learner to walk through a virtual reality home and, like a computer game, click on hazards. The computer keeps track of identified hazards and provides feedback. The learner can learn at their pace and repeat the experience until comfortable with the material and to identify all the 45 hazards, such as rug trip hazard, expired food and medicine. In the future it can be rolled out to teach firefighters, social workers, emergency responders, and even parents who want to child-proof their home.
